People

At Maybank, we know our staff are our greatest asset, and are therefore committed to ensuring an attractive and conducive work environment for them. Our policies are geared towards optimising the well-being and fulfilment of each individual, nurturing their strengths and interests in their preferred areas.
To seal our commitment, Maybank signed the Employer's Pledge to adopt the 5 key principles of fair employment practices under the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices.

Equal opportunities
We look for individuals who are highly motivated and results-oriented, and who demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills. We do not discriminate on grounds of race, religion or gender.
People excellence
We were recognised for our efforts in developing our human capital when we achieved the People Excellence Award given by the Singapore Quality Award Governing Council.
Professional attitude towards our work
We expect our staff to maintain high standards of integrity and professionalism
We promote lifelong learning
We are committed to grooming our people both personally and professionally. To motivate them further, we offer incentives and assistance schemes such as scholarships and sponsorships.
We reward performance
Formal appraisals help us to evaluate and reward performance, facilitate inter-level communication, and allow our employees to seek feedback and develop themselves further
We value health and work-life balance
We place great emphasis on the personal well-being of our people, and our HR policies reflect this. Our staff have comprehensive medical and leave benefits, and enjoy great flexibility under our Flexible Benefits Scheme.
We have also implemented various work-life balance initiatives, such as a five-day work week, "dress-down days", lunchtime talks and various family events. Our Recreational Club organises various sporting and recreational activities, and encourages staff to participate in them.
We care for our older workers
In November 2009, Maybank became the first bank to make commitments in support of the government's Tripartite Guidelines on the Re-employment of Older Workers. These commitments include rehiring workers beyond 62, pledging a one-off payment to employees who cannot be rehired beyond retirement age, and doing away with the discretionary wage cut of 10% for workers at age 60.
An open-door system
We believe in maintaining good employee relations. We encourage honest, constructive and open horizontal and vertical communication, as we believe that this contributes to a conducive work environment.
In addition to informal communication, we have an inhouse employee newsletter as well as a corporate intranet to facilitate communication among our staff and management.
